Swiss National Holiday at Stein am Rhein

Swiss National Holiday at Stein am Rhein – the Swiss celebrate their national day on August 1st with lots of festivals, ceremonial addresses and bonfires. And then there is of course a thrilling firework display to finish.

The formation of the confederation is commemorated in the whole of Switzerland on August 1st. In 1291 AD, three representatives of the 3 Waldstatts Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden met on the Rütliwiese to form a defensive alliance against the Austrians and other enemies. To seal the alliance, they swore the “Rütlischwur” or Rütli Oath. Everything began with this oath, and over time and the centuries more and more cantons joined either peacefully or by force to the original canton until Switzerland, as it exists today, was formed.

The Swiss now commemorate this fact every year on August 1st. On this day, talks are held, thousands of sausages are consumed and millions of francs worth of fireworks are shot into the air. In some places it is more tranquil: With bonfires and minutes of silence, people ponder the past, the future and life. It is a beautiful custom where we make our Swiss national day visible far and wide with bonfires. In any case, one should use the opportunity to take part in these festivities.

Enjoy the relaxing boat trip from Hotel HOERI at Lake Constance with the MS Seestern to Stein am Rhein and marvel at the colourful fireworks. The boat trip will be rounded off with a delicious 3-course menu, served during the trip.
